Taking Stock | October

Standard

Oh man, I fell off the wagon last month. Let’s see what’s new… I’m still doing school, just one more month left of this semester. Unfortunately, there’s way too many semesters left to go before I’m done. I’ve also started a part-time Wellness Internship with a local county department and also started a part-time job at my university’s new Money Management center. Since being laid off, it seems like my schedule has constantly changed. Hopefully, it’s leveled out now. Hopefully. Didn’t do anything exciting for Halloween, just stayed home and watched some scary movies. Pretty low key this year.

So here’s a look into my October, another chapter down in the book called 2015.

This month was kicked off by being laid off of my job, as my position was eliminated. A good and bad deal. I’ll certainly miss the money and short commute but I was unhappy there. And, it brought about a great opportunity. While job shadowing for my Health Promotion degree, I made a great contact and now have a Wellness Internship with a county office. Super excited!!!

I’ve also started another semester at school, taking Social Media Communications, Art and (still) doing Math. We’ve been on a few hikes recently and got to experience beautiful views of the fall season taking over the mountains. Not going to lie, there have been a few things that I’m struggling with recently but I’m trying to stay positive and push forward.

Making: works of art 🙂

Drinking: crystal lite. I’m addicted…

Loving: the protein oatmeal cookies!!

Pondering: the options and my feelings

Considering: sending my symptoms to the writers of House and seeing if they can find a cure.

Buying: not much lately, just the necessary items

Hoping: that I rock at this internship

One + Life = Four | June 18

Standard

I’ve been a little behind on my life posts, these last few weeks have been pretty busy. So, here’s a quick recap of everything since my last post on June 7th. (Big breath!) Started adjusting back to “real” life after the comp, it’s still weird not working out as much but I’m loving the fact that I love being at the gym again and don’t see it as a chore. We had a BBQ with our friends last Wednesday, tried some elk burgers and saw their new (well, 6 month old) little boy. It was a fun few hours! Last weekend, we did some things around the house, checked out some tile for our kitchen backsplash and did some relaxing. This week has been spent getting ready for Mexico, we leave tomorrow!!! So excited!!

Hope you enjoy the glimpse into my life….

pool

Okay, this is from a few Sundays ago but it’s a cute pic that I wanted to share. After the gym, we decided to spend a little time at the local pool a few blocks from our house. It was fun walking around the little lagoon area and walking under the water. It was nice to enjoy the warm weather and spend time just kicking back with the hubs.

texas roadhouseWent to lunch with both of our parents and two of our very good friends. I love this place! And the company was great. It was a combo lunch, for my father-in-law’s birthday and an early Father’s Day for my dad since we’ll be gone on the actual day. It’s always great spending time with our wacky family and friends!

VideoAnd last night, I was fortunate to get recruited for some workout videos by an old friend who is super awesome. It was spur of the moment and I had tons of fun! Here’s a pic of one portion of the video. It will be used for marketing purposes for his personal training business. Really glad I was able to do this and, hey, it never hurts to get my face out in the world! 😀

flyingThis will be us tomorrow, on our way to Mexico! We’ll be staying at two different resorts in Playa Del Carmen – I can’t wait for some fun in the sun!!! After the stress of the last few months, between work and the competition, this is a much needed vacation and I’m super excited!

One + Four = Life | May 17

Standard

Well, it was an okay week. I’m on the upswing of this blasted cold, so that’s a plus. Despite being sick and not feeling the best, it’s been a productive and good weekend. Got some cute stuff for our friend’s baby shower next weekend. Just finished giving the hubs a haircut so I’m covered in hair 🙂 Getting ready to practice my posing for a few minutes, then settle into some homework time before getting my food ready for the week. Then it’s relaxation time for the rest of the day! Here’s a snapshot of my week.

Hope you enjoy the glimpse into my life….

study eat lift

This sums up the last week for me, with a little variation. My Journey to the Stage post breaks it all down but, for the most part, this will be my life for the next 3 weeks. Super busy but still plugging away!

sick

Unfortunately, this also sums up my week. Not sure where I caught it from but I caught something. And, sadly, gave it to Shawn. Which I feel super, super SUPER horrible for 😦 I’ve had this type of cold before, not too long ago, and it hits hard. Luckily, it’s not a full blown head cold but still slowing me down and irritating, nonetheless. I’m a trooper though!

girl

A nice belly-rubbing moment with our little girl. Ear flapped back, not a care in the world. Her, not me. Though, I didn’t really have a care in the world just then either. It was nice to enjoy a few moments before bed just focused on her.

 backyard

The view from my patio door. It’s been chilly and rainy this week, we had quite the wind/rain storm yesterday and into today. Typically, you could see the mountains beyond the houses but, due to the storms, they aren’t visible. Must be getting some snow up there! Boo! 🙂 Seems like April showers just brought more May showers instead of flowers. Looks like another week of showers ahead, too. Oh well….

Kids, Schmids! 5 Things to STOP Saying to People Who Don’t Want Kids.

Standard

no storkI’ve encountered many people who like to give their, unsolicited, opinions and thoughts on my not having children. I don’t ask why you felt the need to have them, I would appreciate if you didn’t feel the need to ask why I don’t. But it’s very simple. I choose not to.

Now, this wasn’t always the case. When I was a little girl, playing with my Barbie dolls, I dreamt that one day I would meet my prince charming, get married and have 2 kids. Why? Because that’s what people were supposed to do. Get married and have kids. So that’s what I was supposed to do, too.

snippedBut the more I really looked at my life and what I truly wanted, I realized that maybe it wasn’t for me. I had no urge or desire to have kids. Would this change? Who knows. Then I met my husband Shawn. He was very upfront about his vasectomy and asked how I felt about kids. I told him I was about 95% sure I didn’t want them. Four years later, here we are. Childless and enjoying life, both content with the decision.

The older we get, the more people like to share their opinions on our childless lifestyle. Here are some of the things that I’ve heard that people need to STOP saying to people who don’t want kids:

1. It’s different when they’re your kids. You’re right. If they’re mine, I can’t give them back at the end of the day. I don’t care for that arrangement.

2. They enrich your life. No, they enrich your life, not mine. And that’s okay. Not everyone’s lives are enriched by a child’s presence. Especially mine.

arrogant3. That’s a selfish decision. Actually, it’s a selfless decision. Shawn and I don’t feel that we could devote the time we would want to, which would be to the detriment of the child. And I’m pretty sure having a child just so someone can take care of us when we’re old and provide missing joy to our lives, even though we don’t really want the child, is considered more selfish.

vacation4. You’re lucky to not have such a busy life. Wtf? Seriously, wtf?! I choose to fill my life with other things besides a child. My and Shawn’s days are jam packed. You know, with full time jobs, school, the gym and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We also supplement our time with date nights, fun outings and travel. Most days (right now anyway), we’re lucky to watch 20 minutes of tv and relax together at the end of the day. I know people, with kids, who have hours of free time each day. Me? Maybe that 20 minutes. Sometimes not even that. Stop assuming I’m sitting at home eating bon bons with my hours upon hours of free time each night just because I don’t have a kid.

5. You’ll regret it one day. And maybe one day you’ll regret having children. The response to #3 above applies here, too.

So, there are just some of the things to STOP saying to childless couples. This post was sparked by the following article, http://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a6152/childless-women/, a must read! The article gives some more great things to stop saying.

Some people, like Shawn and me, have realized that parenting is not for us and continue to enjoy our lives. Thanks, just the same, for your concern.

Sincerely,

Happily Childless
