One + Four = Life | May 31

Another busy week down! My week revolved around my workouts mostly, feels like I live at the gym right now. I also met with my volunteer coordinator to go over my paperwork, tour the facility and briefly discuss how things will work when I start volunteering in July. It’s been a great weekend so far, even took our little girl for a short walk on Saturday, a walk today and got caught up on homework so I can take this coming week off and focus on the competition and had a relaxing night.

Me and our little girl, Savannah, during our walk yesterday. This is one of the rare times she’s actually looking at the camera; she tends to turn her head at the last minute. This was about the only shaded spot. We did a quick loop around the baseball field area because Savannah can’t do long treks. It was a nice little break from the house and gym though, plus I love spending some time with my family 🙂

walk 2Another view on our walk. The trail runs through multiple cities and you can join at multiple spots. This entrance we used is right next to my work and the area isn’t the most scenic (on the West side) but the East side (towards the river) is really beautiful in spots. I’m no artist but these old tracks are really calm and pretty in my opinion.

abs yetI just love this one! It sums up a lot of my feelings lately, with the competition getting closer. Plus it’s a cute picture 🙂

Still working hard now that it’s down to the wire. Only 6 more days!!!!

Taking Stock | May

mayWhat a crazy busy month! It’s been a whirlwind of trying to maintain my sanity – between starting school, getting my volunteer stuff going and training for the comp, it’s been hectic.

So here’s a look into my May, another chapter down in the book called 2015. Let me know what you think.

Making: it through each day, the best I can.

Cooking: chicken and veggie stir fry almost nightly and loving it!

Drinking: protein coffee, protein coffee and more protein coffee 😉

Reading: Smart Women by Judy Blume – almost done!

Wanting: to try out so many new recipes and old favorites

Looking: forward to our upcoming trips in June and July. Ready to start living normal again!

Playing: around with different hair color ideas for the fall, already!

Deciding: that there are a lot of weird people in the world. Then wondering if they think I’m the weird one. ??

Wishing: for our homemade mushroom/turkey/egg burger right about now.

Enjoying: every meal I can get!

Waiting: to start my volunteer work in July – scared but excited!

Liking: the support from friends right now!

Wondering: why this couple on House Hunters would have the wife and kids move to Panama (so their kids can experience culture for the hell of it), while the husband continues to work his dentistry practice in Florida and commutes to Panama every weekend. Yes, commute to Panama EVERY weekend. He’ll work Mon-Thurs in Florida, then fly to Panama and spend time with the family. Um… okay…. that really makes no sense.

Loving: getting our vacations planned and booked

Pondering: all the restaurants and “normal” activities we’re going to try after the competition. We’re ready to have a normal, fun summer and life again.

Considering: options for the TAM conference in July. We want to go “nerd out”!

Buying: way too much lately!

Watching: more home shows like Caribbean Life and Lakefront House Hunt

Hoping: that I kick some ass at the competition!

Marveling: at the changes in my body this month.

Cringing: at this stupid cold

Needing: a massage!

Questioning: why I decided to do this competition 😉 LOL

Smelling: lots of rain this month

Wearing: sandals and my new sleeveless tops

Following: lots of new blogging friends this month, loving it!

Noticing: the grass getting greener, leaves in full bloom, and a change in the air lately

Knowing: that competition prep is almost over. Yay!

Thinking: that way too many people at Walmart have just given up in life

Admiring: the dedication and hard work that me and the hubs have been going through lately.

Sorting: out mixed feelings on a friendship

Getting: excited to buy a patio set so we can enjoy some evenings in the back yard

Bookmarking: some new books I “want to read” on GoodReads

Coveting: some new sandals and an over body purse

Disliking: doing this much cardio. Ugh!

Opening: box after box of protein powder (we’re obsessed with new flavors!)

Giggling: over little inside jokes with the hubs 🙂

Feeling: exhausted

Snacking: on protein pudding

Wishing: for some normalcy soon!

Helping: the less fortunate by donating a huge box of clothes to the MS foundation.

Hearing: lots of thunder and rain this month!

Quirks Are Us Thursday | Volume #4

I like the word “quirk”; it’s quirky. A much better term than “weird” to describe the little idiosyncrasies that make me, me.

Here are a few more quirks that make me, me. Share some of yours below, I would love to hear them!

mine1. Pens: Once I start using a pen, it becomes “my” pen. And I hate for people to take my pen. When I worked with another company, I had a very recognizable pen. And when it went missing, I walked around each person’s desk until I found it, at which point I said “That’s my pen and I’m taking it back now. Thanks.” 🙂

pillow2. Pillow placement: My pillow is completely warped. It starts out normal and over time, due to my neurosis, gets warped into something hardly recognizable. I can’t sleep with my head in the middle of my pillow, like normal folk. My head has to be on a bottom corner of either side. But then the pillow fluffs up too much around my head, so I beat it into submission so the part I’m actually resting on is really full and firm. And if it takes me 10 minutes to get it “just right”, then my husband has to listen to me shift around and beat my pillow for 10 minutes until it’s “just right”. I’m sure he loves it 🙂

oatmeal3. Liquid/soggy oatmeal: I hate liquid-y oatmeal. Oh, I put water in my oatmeal before cooking it but very sparingly. Currently, I’m loving oatmeal with hot cereal and protein powder. Still hate it liquid-y. If this happens, I add more protein powder to thicken it up. It must be borderline sludge for me to like it. If it’s mildly runny and I can’t do anything about it, it ruins my meal slightly and I don’t enjoy it as much.

One + Four = Life | May 24

This week was not the greatest, still being sick, stressed and working way too hard. It was a pretty uneventful week, just full of workouts and more workouts and feeling less than stellar. This weekend has been good though. We went to a movie for our “date”, spent time enjoying some normal foods again (carb loading) and I’m ready for the holiday tomorrow and am thankful I don’t have to work. Yay for 3 day weekends!

Post workout meal for this morning. Yesterday and today we’ve been experimenting with carb loading for the comp. It’s actually been nice, mentally and physically, to do this. These are protein pancakes, made with Funfetti Cake Batter protein powder. Oh my god, these were the best things! Super yummy!!!!!

The cute invite to our friend’s baby shower this afternoon. They’re having a girl. The little dragon is an inside joke with this couple. So last weekend, I got to pick out some cute little baby clothes. The party was as fun as baby showers can be (not my favorite thing) but it’s nice to share in someone’s happy moment.

We started Season 4 of American Horror Story, Freak Show. We loved this show from the first season, even though season 3 wasn’t that great. This one is definitely weird, true to the American Horror Story way, and it’s definitely freaky. Pretty good so far, though the second season has ben my favorite so far.

MS

We did some spring cleaning with our clothes and provided a pretty big box to the MS Foundation. The box was so big and awkward, I had to push it to the front door and out onto the porch. It’s awesome because MS emails me when they’re in the area, I schedule the appointment online and they pick up the box. Easy breazy! I love donating to this cause, they do a fabulous job. It’s a nice feeling to purge the closets AND know you’re helping those less fortunate. Feeling good!

Pajama Pants = Every Day Attire

No, I’m not going to pull an Eva Mendez and tell you that pajama pants or sweat pants will ruin your marriage and make your spouse so horribly un-attracted to you that they gouge their eyes out and run for the hills, screaming. But I will tell you that these once reserved-for-nighttime-only-pants have become every day attire for some folk. And why? Where did this trend come from?

I’m all for being comfy, I love, love, LOVE my pajamas. But I don’t LIVE in my pajamas. Especially not in public. The only exception to this? If I hit Warren’s drive thru in the evening (yes, I do have guilty pleasures….). However, I’m not getting out of my car, my pajama pants actually look like gym pants, my pajama pants are clean and this is not a daily ritual.

To me, the equivalent of going out daily in your pajamas signals that you have completely given up on yourself and life in general. If you can’t be bothered to throw on some jeans, a t-shirt and shoes, not a ratty hasn’t-been-washed-in-5-years-that-was-once-white-but-now-looks-grey shirt and fuzzy bunny slippers, then you have officially given up on life. You are no longer just “being comfy” and “doing your thing”, you’re showing everyone that you don’t have pride in your appearance or yourself. Or maybe you’re just trying to save money on shampoo, soap and clothing?

Regardless, can this trend please end now?

dials1. Car Temperature: Simply stated, whether it’s hot or cold, I like the temperature dials in my car to be on the same number. This drives my husband nuts. It’s an automatic response because I’m so used to doing what I want in my car. So when he’s riding shot gun and I get hot or cold, I adjust both dials to match what I want. He knows it’s automatic so he just looks at me, smiles and moves his dial where he wants it 🙂

dog bowl2. Dog Bowl Placement: When I feed our little girl, I have to put the bowl in the exact same location. Every time. I don’t switch it around, though my husband and I put the bowl in different spots when we each feed her. But I like it in a certain spot. That’s the “spot” for the bowl.

utensils3. Plastic Handled Utensils: I prefer plastic handled utensils, especially spoons. My husband is the opposite. I love them, he despises them. He went out and bought metal handled spoons (partly because we kept running out of clean ones) and moved all of the plastic spoons to the back of the drawer. Because I love the plastic ones, I keep getting them out from the back and using them for cookies and shakes. He was perplexed and pissed that they kept cropping up in the sink. If I leave one of these spoons on the counter (for me to use) and he grabs it, I actually give him the stink eye and let him know he’s taken my spoon. And it’s unappreciated. Yes, I’m that protective of my spoons. 🙂
